To What Once Was explores the role of the artist and culture maker. Inspired by Joseph Buoys and his role as Shaman, Mystic, among other titles, I sought to do the same within my own work, acting as a catalyst towards a new concern for and integration of nature.
To What Once Was began with the gathering of dried Day Lily flower stalks, which remains with the Day Lily long after the seed pods open to ensure the growth for a new year. With these stalks, I documented a series of performances to connect with that spirit. To What Once Was is the resulting documentation of performances, pavilion space, and altars, all which ask to reconnect and merge with nature.
